Remember these magazines? In my opinion, two of the best ones to come out. And Vitals definitely influenced the magazines we read today. There’s a great little write up on it here in Step Inside Design. When Vitals came out, I felt like somebody had read my mind. I loved all of the components to every spread and all of the tidbits on each page. And the type? The designer showed you that all you need is a classic san serif (Franklin) and a classic serif (Baskerville). The first issue with Matt Damon on the cover was just titled VITALS. Then they added “MAN” below he VITALS and it looked 200 times worse. But oh well, the contents were still great. I know that Cookie was aimed towards women, but I loved it. I always stole it from my wife. Such great photography in there. ANd definitely a magazine influenced by VITALS. Anyway, I just dug them out of the archives here at home. I’m so glad I saved them.
